Why do the cases in Dundee and the World all face inwards and why are the walls painted a deep blue colour?

This gallery posed a particular challenge to us. We wanted to show our world collections in this prestigious space but it is essential that they are protected from too much light. In other galleries we have been able to fit blinds but in this space we did not want to mask the beautiful stained glass. The solution was therefore to face all the casing away from the light coming in through the windows and pick a colour for the walls which would absorb light. We think the result is rather striking and has the added benefit of showing off the stained glass and our collection of European paintings.
