Harpoon line and stand for kayak, 1800s
East Greenland
Bone, sealskin and wood

Donor unrecorded
Museum number 9999-1517

The stand was positioned on top of the kayak deck, to prevent the line getting tangled when the harpoon was thrown at its target. The line was used to pull in the struck animal. The wooden shaft of the harpoon floated and could be easily retrieved and re-used.
