Who we are...

We are a semi functional group of youngsters who love to perform and enjoy expressing ourselves through the arts!

We are young people who have different ideas and different personalities which come together to form a talented group...

What's important to us?

Creating - expressing ourselves - providing entertainment for the public - enjoying ourselves - offering a space for young people - representing the McManus - having fun - listening.

What's not important?

Money - impressing others - being someone you're not - shoes (Callum) - School uniform (Kieran)

Vita Nuova projects

We are Vita Nuova...

From March to June 2010, working with Ashley (drama worker) and Scott (artist) the group developed their name, identity and graphic logos over 8 weeks - being inspired by Steampunk, Artist Peter Blake, the Victoria Gallery and the stories of the Victorian industrialists who founded the museum.

'Strike a Pose' Plinth project

The Vita Nuova group were invited to devise and host a performance project for the summer holidays taking inspiration from Anthony Gormley's 'One another' plinth project in Trafalgar Square (although the McManus plinths are somewhat smaller!)

For one week in August while Titian's 'Diana and Actaeon' painting was drawing the crowds, visitors were treated to some lunchtime dance, drama, music and singing courtesy of the Vita Nuova group and other lively Dundonian young people. When the Dundonian weather got too much the group took their show to the Victoria Gallery.

McManus Tagtoolistas

Since November 2010 Vita Nuova have been working with Julie and Scott (Artists) to develop a project using the tagtool http://www.tagtool.org and exploring the story of the Intrepid Lady Journalists and the story of their worldwide travels that adorn the walls of the Dundee and the World gallery.

All about Erin (dance student - age 18)

I'm Erin Schepers and I've been a member of Vita Nuova for a year now. Vita Nuova for me is a group to explore not just my drama skills, but also skills in areas like media, art, music and non-performance areas like management of projects and planning.

Also I learn more about the history of Dundee which otherwise I wouldn't have known about - meaning I'd still think Dundee is Dull (which prior to Vita Nuova was my opinion!) I've gained confidence, new skills and new friends and I refuse to let anyone take me away from Vita Nuova!! Lovin' it!! Erin x
